Kazuhiro Yamanaka’s new lamp made out of Japanese paper and recycled polyester compresses to fit inside a pizza box. With a delicate and lightweight form, the lighting fixture is made out of paper and coated with polyester material, each crinkled to create a unique pattern and add strength. Coming packaged in a cardboard pizza box, when opened the lamp gently unfolds to stand freely without support and emit gentle LED light.

Kazuhiro Yamanaka’s paper and polyester lamp comes in two size variations, each packaged compactly inside a cardboard pizza box, taking into consideration environmental destruction caused by transportation. As the box is opened, the lamp begins to gently unfold due to the elasticity of the material and the compact packaging. As it is completely propped up by hand, it is able to stand freely without any internal structure. The Japanese designer installs two types of LED bulbs – incandescent and fluorescent – which emit warm and cool light respectively. The transparent fine flame softens and minimizes shadows, and maintains the lamp’s light weight. Through each fixture’s uniquely wrinkled paper surface, the light is gently diffused to form distinct patterns.
